Our Submission To The EPBC Act Review
In the midst of these extraordinary times, it takes a bit of an effort to remember that the COVID-19 pandemic came hot on the heels of the worst bushfire season we’d ever had, following a terrible drought and horrific fish kills, and the third mass bleaching event on the Great Barrier Reef in five years.
Despite the appropriate focus elsewhere on short term survival, the ecological crisis is still a matter of survival in the only slightly longer term.
This is the context in which the Commonwealth is reviewing its environment protection laws, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act – judged against its own objects, one of the greatest failures in recent Australian legislative history.
An act which exists for the purpose of protecting the environment has overseen a disastrous process of managed destruction of Australia’s environment.
The Green Institute held a webinar to discuss this and encourage and support people to write submissions to the review. Discover the details of that webinar.
